Statement
of intent
How do you
intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate
meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?
I intend to make a music video which includes performance and
narrative, featuring the artist as the main character. The narrative in based
around the artist and her now ex-boyfriend. The song itself is lyrical to the
boy’s perspective since he is begging for her back. My artist however is the
one who is reciting the lyrics so it is seen as a repetitive thing that she
already knows what he is going to say to her. I make this quite clear through
using acting throughout the video; in the chorus the boy is present in the
video and is pictured as wanting her back, whereas in the verses she is alone and
independent, portrayed to be fed up of him and not need him. The music video
will fit into the genre of pop as it will match the typical conventions of a
pop music video. These conventions reflect mise en scene, where I will be consistently
including bright/good lighting, nice settings, makeup and costume. These will
match existing pop music videos such as; Dua Lipa, new rules (good lighting),
Ariana Grande, thank u next (costume), Little Mix, power (makeup) and Maroon 5,
sugar (setting). The use of all of these combined make up the illusion of a pop
music video, they all need to be included to present the artist in an important
light. My target audience is between 16-25 year olds, which I feel my music
video attracts since my choice of song is upbeat and fun. The video itself will
be very bright with quick, fast shots, ensuring my audience is engaged at all
times and not getting bored of long, slow shots. I also feel as though the
‘story’ told throughout my video, alongside the lyrics, can be very relatable
to this age group, which would initially attract them as they wouldn’t
necessarily edge towards something which wasn’t sympathetic to them. I can also
attract the audience through my editing, cutting each shot on the beats of the song
and creating smooth transitions between shot instead of all my shots being
jumbled and not flowing nicely.
My website design will be quite minimal but effective. It
will be easy for the target audience to use, making sure it’s easy to navigate.
My content page will allow the user to split across into different pages making
everything separate from one another, it will be split into pages of; home,
about, merchandise, music and tour dates. The user will also be able to search
for all these things through a ‘search’ bar along the top of each page. My
website will reflect my song ‘flowers’, therefore I will incorporate some sort
of minimalist theme to attract the audience and make sure they know they are on
the right website when looking for it. Other features included on the website
will be direct links to social medias and exciting things which will be coming
up to do with my artist, to enable the audience to look forward to things
involving my artist. It will reflect Sony music as I will use conventions from
their existing artist’s websites to make sure mine mirrors their image. For
example, Chris Brown and Calvin Harris’ websites heavily promote their new
albums/songs through a theme which relates to this. The websites advertise
tours and merch, which mine will do, promoting financial gain for the artist
and Sony company.
How do you
intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and
understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?
Branding is essential in media industries because it creates
a profitable identity which is key for success. It creates an image for the
artist which the audience then base of off. Perception of an artist is so
important, allowing them to stay competitive within the industry, making the
artist more recognisable. In my music video I will make a title near the
beginning which will include the main logo as well as colours which will tie in
with the website. On my website I will have multiple pictures which relate to
my music video, for example shots which were took of the artist in main
locations of the music video. I will also have silent videos on my page (like
post Malone) to engage the audience and give them something to look at/watch.
Social media will be a huge influence on the target audience and the Sony
company because of association. Regular posts of teasers for the music video
and professional photoshoots will boost the excitement of the release, as well
as the audience getting to know the artist through Q&A’s and life updates.
